Nittonarton Creates A Garden | Building The Foundation With Raised Beds

Spring is officially here! As a result, we have started to plan our new garden. We thought you might want to follow along as we create our new green space. Because we are renting our house, we do not want do to anything too permanent or expensive. Let’s start with our inspiration for the foundation – raised beds with a modern twist.

Bamboo in a box

We love bamboo, the foliage, the cool stems, the sound in the wind! We knew from the beginning of our planning that we wanted to incorporate it in our garden one way or another. When the raised beds idea came up, planting bamboo in boxes as a divider or eves as a hedge was one of the first things that we agreed upon.

Privacy wall with bed

Because our garden is very open to the public, we have to build some sort of privacy wall. One of the ideas we have is to make walls with incorporated plant boxes or raised beds with trellises. The beds are a bit more mobile, but the wall idea gives instant privacy. We are still trying to figure out what’s the best for our space.

High or low?

Do we use high or low plants in the boxes? Bamboo is a fast grower, but why not combine is with other plants? Grass, palm trees, ferns and laurel are some of the other plants we have in mind. Planting low plants in high beds or high plants in low, these are questions we have to figure out.

With that said, below is a sneak peak of the design direction we are taking, to be continued…
